We made it to Broome!

We began the journey from Perth to Broome on the first day of Lent.

Many people give up something during Lent, as we walk the Journey of Christ to the Cross. Cindy and I decided to spend this trek to Broome fasting and praying. Bathing each day in prayer as we drove the many miles Northward. God was so close to us during this time and provided the strength we needed each day to unhook and then hook back up.

Because of this we took our time, and soaked in the many beautiful places and learned more and more about the amazing Aboriginal/1st Nations people that live or lived in the communities we traveled through. If you are a Facebook friend of Rob’s, you can see the 13 day journey and see lots of videos by clicking the button below. There are plenty of details and photos of the journey further below.

Thank you for being faithful prayer worriers and financial supporters so we could travel on this long trek – We appreciate YOU greatly!

Day 1

Perth to Broome Trek Begins!!!

We planned to take two weeks to make the journey and catch some amazing sites while traveling. See below for more details or click the button above to see the post with videos at my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/rob.north.52 – you will need a Facebook account to view these.

Day 2

Perth to Broome Trek – spent touring the town of Geraldton. We took a guided tour of the Catholic Church designed by architect-priest Monsignor John Cyril Hawes, then the HMAS Sydney II Memorial and finished with a sunset visit to the Horizon. See the time-lapsed video of the day 2 sunset on my Facebook page.

Day 3

Geralton to Kalbarri today.

Along the way we broke the drone out as we passed by the Pink Lake Lagoon near Gregory and added the sunset at Kalbarri. You will need to go to my Facebook page to see the drone videos.

We asked people to pray that day because in Brisbane where the Nazarene Theological College is – Cyclone Alfred was racing through that area – At NTC they were not seriously affected, beyond branches falling and buffeting winds. Electricity supply was lost, some buildings sustained physical and water damage, and cleanup is still underway. They are requesting volunteer and financial assistance for the cleanup – see the Support page of the NTC website for details.

Day 4

Spent the day at the Kalbarri Skywalk and learning about the Nanda Aboriginal People. See the photos for informational slides you can read, and go to my Facebook page for two videos walking out on the skywalk, as well as much much more.

Hope you enjoy as we learn each day about the many truly unique mobs we discover while heading North to Broome.

Day 5

SABBATH Rest in the outback of Australia. St. Marks Anglican Church was the only church in that area. We shot some drone footage over the sandy beach from the evening before – see my Facebook page for the video.

Day 6

Beautiful drive from Kalbarri to Monkey Mia (pronounced my-ah). On my Facebook page enjoy the time-lapse sunset. www.facebook.com/rob.north.52

Day 7

Emus and dolphins were the day – see several videos on my FaceBook page: www.facebook.com/rob.north.52

Day 8

Monkey Mia to Carnarvon (said without the “r”). Carnarvon played a significant role in NASA tracking space flight in the 60’s and 70’s – wonderful museum there!

Day 9

Wonderful day starting with another visit to an Aboriginal culture center before heading off to Coral Bay. I was not able to take pictures inside so you are left with a couple notes I took.

Proud of the Christian Church in that community providing education for 1st Nations people and many having good memories about it. And lastly is the sunset at Coral Bay!!!

Day 10

Amazing day in Coral Bay – we had the opportunity to go on a glass bottom boat and see up close the coral reef. Capped off the day with a marvelous sunset!

Day 11

Coral Bay to Karratha – hot hot hot day – 41c (106 f). Gone was the ocean for most of the day and the terrain is changing.

We started with throwbacks from Africa with termite mounds as far as the eyes can see. More and more three and four trailer Road Trains. Wheat and straw fields – we also saw natural gas plants several times.

Day 12

Sabbath – Sanctified was the theme for today’s sermon – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-12. Powerful – straight to your face preaching (see the pastor’s PowerPoint after reading the passage).

In Australia many couples just live together so the pastor said. “ I will marry you for free, then we will have a BBQ and celebrate here in the church” (my paraphrase). As we came out of church at 10ish it was already 100 degrees.

Day 13

WE DID IT!!!! We made it to BROOME TODAY!!! We departed at 7:30am from Karratha and arrived in Broome at 5:30pm – 10 hours.

Fuel here in Broome is 2.26 per liter so we filled up in Port Headlands where it is much cheaper. Road trains everywhere along the way from the mines and even saw an outback electric plant!

Cindy and I end a 14 day fast we began the day we left Perth! We praise God he sustained us all the way here! We are here in Broome for the next month!!!
